Love Is... by Richard Doiron

Richard Doiron's Biography"Understanding the mysterious nature of love has baffled the minds of poets and philosophers for centuries. The ancient Greeks used several words to describe –it – eros, philos, agape, whereas we in the Twenty-First century have only one word – love! But what does it mean? In his collection, Love Is... A special collection of love poems, poet Richard Doiron has attempted to answer this age old question with thirty definitions combined with beautiful nature photography by his friends Carol Knepper, Richard Vallance, and Luc Majno which set the tone for this jewel of a book.

Each short poem is gem-like, shining with the brilliance of a finely cut diamond, the soft luster of a pearl, the mysterious fire of an opal. Richard explores the nature of romantic, idealistic love; mature forgiving love; love of parent for child, love of self – for one cannot truly love another until one loves oneself. And then the poems pull back from the particular to the general – how love impacts the world – "Love is a better world tomorrow for the care that’s taken today", writes Richard. The poem which touched my heart most deeply is this one –

"Love is
being eyes for the blind,
being ears for the deaf
and being words for the mute,
so as little as possible
will go unseen
and unheard
and unsaid."

Love Is ... will be a timely gift for your loved one at Valentine’s Day to read together or for yourself on any day as you reflect upon the nature and meaning of this frequently misunderstood word, which in the end, is the only word that really matters."
